Porting a Fa_ebook Video Post :: It's a Wrap
On the occasion of wrapping the fine film "city Island" recorded this video @ The Facebooks.
Wound up wearing the sleep mask to the wrap party as hat. Um-hm.
I see now why The Facebooks is a good tool for the job.
If you enjoy the history of film making from the perspective of an insightful, well-organized mind, check out Raymond's blog.

80th Birthday Media Ripples
Just learned that family friends Charlie & Paula created a Flickr photoset of their still images from Dad's birthday party.
How nice to be able to share the slideshow from their collection.
Here's their rendition of "Amazing Grace" with Bonnie Rideout:

Excerpts from Dailies of City Island
And I can't help but think it's a really good thing that the production's sharing exquisite moments before the fact.
After only a week of production, the crew is of one mind about helping to make "City Island": it's gonna be a great little movie.
POST NOTE: added '&fmt=18' to the end of the YouTube url within the embed code in order to bring you a higher-resolution version of the footage.

Make Media Any Time, Any Where w/Seesmic as tool
Posted earlier the beginning of a conversation about my process of being part of "City Island" with Seesmic as conversational film making tool.
It's been a while since I played @ Seesmic, but their player - to which one may reply in video without ever leaving my page - brilliant - has grown up. Come of age.
All you need is a webcam, Camtwist, and a Seesmic account.
Everybody on set's got one.
Most sets have wi-fi.
Show folks what's what in 3 minutes or less.
It's really fucking easy.
We're all film makers, damnit. Superior technicians.
Why wouldn't we make media?
The question is: can we do it right? Will production trust us with the responsibility? Will something beautiful be made of it one day? What will the unions make of this? Are we not all bloggers / videobloggers / still photographers / prop masters / film makers?
Cheap tools & technology, baby.
Should we not reap benefits from this expanded endeavor all the way around?
Seesmic.
Think high-tech, lo-fi.
Think ubiquitous.

Letter from Goody Consumer Relations RE: Goody Twin Beads
Have had increasing trouble finding Goody Twin Beads for purchase. As you can see from this Flickr set, baubles are just the thing to keep cables looking and acting neat.
Found (with some difficulty) some for purchase online, but decided to call Goody to see what was up.
While the charming Ms. McCorkle of Goody Consumer Relations was very helpful - she provided contact information for Goody's 'small accounts', one-off purchases, and a list of chain stores that handle their Twin Bead product - we didn't get into the why this was happening.
IMHO, Goody - a 100-year-old company - has, lo these recent years, been content to ride on its Twin Bead laurels. While Goody enjoyed the ride, Scunci jumped to the forefront of the girls' hair accessory market with enthusiasm & innovation. The following Amazon.com sales tool illustrates some of the hair jewelry Scunci's come up with:
For comparison's sake, here are Goody's items listed at Amazon.com:
Through Ms. McCorkle, Goody sent me four boxes of baubles for my trouble, which bought Goody a basketload of good will.
I'm a huge fan of Goody's baubles. Use them many times a day, every day of my working life. Their elastic lasts longer and works better than Scunci's cheap knockoffs (also difficult to find lately). Why shouldn't I help them market their product to my tech / geek friends with lots of cables to organize? No reason in the world.

POST NOTE: It Was Arnold Newman & John Singer Sargent
[Arnold Newman - 13 Images]
[Arnold Newman in Florida - by Bruce Weber]
Remembered the name of the photographer of whom I spoke earlier [below podcast].
Arnold took my husband's portrait for the catalog of the Newman in Florida show. I see Bruce's book's gone up in value: from free to $100.
Had the great pleasure of dining with Arnold and his wife - a woman who fought - shot & killed - in the 1968 war in Israel. How do you ever contain that ferocity once unleashed? A gentle soul.
They were - are? - so very fucking strong, those two, and gracious hosts. Their walls floor-to-ceiling with art. High ceilings there were - a full two stories - with an enormous north-facing sky light.
I prefer south light for the beauty of the passing of it and its seasonal variations that tell me where and when to shoot. It's always different, and an altogether marvelous diversion.
Ran into Arnold on the street one day as I was filming something-or-other and it seems to me that I was in some kind of wacky wardrobe. No. It was that I'd recently shaved my head and there he was. He didn't say a word about it.
Now I see that Arnold's gone.
I take a minute to mourn his passing.
Reading the obituary I see that Augusta survived him.
Arnold did EVERY-FUCKING-BODY. You know his work.
Do you imagine we had some rousing conversations about art at dinner and as he stayed in West Palm Beach to shoot images of it, revisiting his early career as an itinerant beach portrait-maker.
Studying his portraits through the years invested my eyes more than I knew.
Here's some John Singer Sargent for ya. Also an itinerant portrait painter.
I do not claim to be an artist; art claims me.
Let me come for a visit & take your portrait in video.
I come from a time-honored tradition of itinerant portrait painters and had some of the BEST teachers up close and personal.
Studied with the best in fine fine art, poetry, film, sound, dance, philosophy, illustration.
Study is of course ongoing.
It's quite an internet salon we got goin' on, yo.
Good news - as a film maker - is forthcoming. Keep your ears peeled.

VlogEurope 2007 :: Revlog :: Media Ripple :: Happy Birthday from Loiez
A haiku vlog-card from Loiez, one of my favorite poet / vloggers on the planet, and a hugely talented human being. No one's ever made me a video birthday greeting before.
What an honor to have met him and his lovely wife @ VlogEurope.
You've no idea how deeply this touches me, Loiez.
Thank you.

Lumière :: rules :: Heidelberg Barge Lumière
At worst, we destroy important viewpoints through unnecessary editing.
I don't particularly cotton to rules except not to break them when to do so risks arrest.
Raymond asks good questions in the Heidelberg couch sessions.
VlogEurope Media Ripples.
A cult of affinity.
To which there is all and no allegiance.
For all the land, stone & water
beneath
there was not
much common ground.
It was - rather -
uncommon common air;
a union of propensity and proclivity
toward progeneration of
fine, and noteworthy nothings.

I give you T.S. Eliot's "Prufrock and Other Observations" of +- 00:36:00 length for a short film. I plan to collect Lumières for it. Feel free to mash up. CC Attribution | Non-commercial.

Revlog :: Gay Ex-Pat Features French Macarons
Recently photocast an image of the French Macarons brought to lunch by a dear friend, and this video appeared in the comments as a response.
Gay Ex-Pat's beautifully-rendered video of French version of the macaron (that's right, it's spelled 'macaron') contains no coconut, but is rather a meringue-based confection made with powdered almonds. Yum.
Everything is delicious.

Developers Code Twitter into a Ubiquitous Social Ap
And now, Frapper's in the game with Twitterami. You guessed it, found out about it reading Twitter posts. Thanks, Scoble.
I prefer being ahead of the curve, and being ahead or near the head of the curve is something Twitter makes easier.
Due caution: it's windy here.
Used Frapper with good success with Road Node 101 and also using it to plot Robert Smithson's world-wide earthworks for a Have Money Will Vlog project-in-progress called "ArtSmash".
