Re-Vlog :: DIY DAYS PHL - Nina Paley - Nina Sings The Blues

SITA SINGS THE BLUES Distribution Project Report ?If it?s free, how do you make money?? 5 months after the Creative Commons Share Alike release of her animated musical feature Sita Sings the Blues, Nina Paley presents the first round of hard data from the project. Contrary to MPAA propaganda, the more the audience freely shares the film, the more they purchase DVDs, theater admissions, and merchandise; witness the $$ numbers that prove it. Nina Paley is the creator of the animated musical feature film Sita Sings the Blues, which has screened in over 150 film festivals and won over 30 international awards including the Annecy Grand Crystal, The IFFLA Grand Jury Prize, and a Gotham Award. Her adventures in our broken copyright system led her to Copyleft her film, and join QuestionCopyright.org as Artist-in-Residence. She teaches at Parsons School of Design and is a 2006 Guggenheim Fellow. www.sitasingstheblues.com

Porting a Fa_ebook Video Post :: It's a Wrap

On the occasion of wrapping the fine film "city Island" recorded this video @ The Facebooks.

Wound up wearing the sleep mask to the wrap party as hat. Um-hm.

I see now why The Facebooks is a good tool for the job.

If you enjoy the history of film making from the perspective of an insightful, well-organized mind, check out Raymond's blog.

Villanelle For Our Time – Leonard Cohen

Not 'commerce' but rather, 'commonwealth'.

Oh.

Yeah.

I get it now.

Testing Blip.FM blog publication. Already integrated into Twitter, I like being able to embed a song in the blog. Let's see...

Repost :: "You okay?"

.:. Faux Press .:.

So many scripts have characters say, "You okay?"

Gah.

Kindly invent some other way to inquire.

Please.

I'm begging, now.

More later.

Film's Twelve Commandments

Hilarious found 'poem' illustrating the Twelve Commandments of Film.

On-set wit & wisdom movlogged from an undisclosed set location.

Keepin' it real.

Putting increasing numbers of posts into the public domain. Giving away works I love hurts in the way that lets me know it's the right thing to do.

Re-vlogging Lawrence Lessig :: THE Idea for the 21st Century

Okay. I tend toward hyperbole, but this is honestly one of the best ideas toward action and change I've heard lately.

Unsurprisingly, this comes from the same fellow who gave us one of the best ideas of the 20th Century: the Creative Commons.

Listen.

Then listen again.

The Psychic Poets :: Art Infomercial

An excerpt from a longer work titled "The Psychic Poets".

Art & Commerce.

That's my ex.

We got awfully silly as poets.

So silly we got drummed out of an experimental poetry workshop @ St. Marks Church. Bernadette Mayer. Yeah.

They just didn't get it.

They missed the point.

Bruce. Me. Elaine Jones and Ed McPhillips.

The four of us did a lot of poetry performance together. Bunches of films (in 16mm), audio tapes, live performance. I'd forgotten how much product we created together as an emsemble. We were prolific.

We even wrote a play together that was produced a couple times by the four of us, and once by Toni Taylor of Pi Dance Theatre.

Transferring old media to new media is simultaneously pain in the ass and amazing journey.

Connecting with old friends temporarily lost to the settlement agreement.

Mom's Friend Pearl :: Embroidery Gender Relations Meditation

Embroidery is not a lost art: a meditation on gender relations.

Pearl recently moved and Mom was hot to see her new space.

Got to meet bunches of Mom's buddies during this last visit as I shuttled her around for visits she doesn't get to easily make.

So good to get to know these fine folks.

So good.

WGA Strike Looms :: Union Members Speak

Members of the Writers Guild of America, West speak about why they've volunteered to serve as Picket/Contract Captains during the WGA's talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers.
Marketing the contract negotiations. Framing the questions / issues.

Unions have lost tremendous ground in the last 20 years.

Let us go no farther down the slippery slope toward a return to the complete and heartless exploitation of labor.

Swim Symphony: Mashup Week IV

Shannon Noble's "Raw Footage" vlog strikes me for lots of reasons, not least of which is the vehemence with which he plays. Watched the footage many times, empathizing with the intense emotion displayed. It's been a month or two since he posted it. Thankfully downloaded the video because in the interim Noble wiped his site clean, hence no permalink to the entry is available.

Similarly, Robert Rowe's Cello Wireless Podcast of occasional cello improvs stays with me.

Both haunted me all summer from the hard drive.

Part of how I survive is to rent warehouse space to Tom, who recently invited me to his country lake-house for dinner and a swim.
Let this serve as a rejection of perfection and the consumption of images of olymipic-quality lives. Real life is imperfect and small and intensely beautiful, remarkable, shareable.
All that, simply to say: Here's Swim Symphony

Faux Press Vlog: Natural Light - Ode to Cinematographers

Natural Light: Ode to Cinematographers

In the film industry, we often race or 'fight' the light.

This short poetry film commemorates that moment when natural light conflicts with beauty and duty.

A "four-by" is a 4' x 4' light cutting tool used by grips to sculpt light.
