"Washington Square" by Henry James in a single .mp3.

This version of the free audiobook is NOT in the public domain as the single chapters are. This is released under a CC 2.0: Attribution, Non-Commercial-Share Alike License.

Chapter 1 :: Washington Square by Henry James

Have begun to read a new, free, public domain audio book over at UrbanArtAdventures.

This will be an easier project than "Lady Chatterley's Lover" since the chapters are shorter and manageable in a quick hour or so.

Instant Documentary :: Behind-the-Scenes

The goal was to get as many of the crew on film as possible, in as little time, with as little trouble and as much fun, while creating a memorable souvenir of and for the people who made this film.

Clearly, everybody eventually had a really good time with the concept.

Please note that this is posted only for purposes of my reel.

Next Audio Book :: "Women in Love" by D.H. Lawrence

Choose this work because a particular passage from "Women in Love" is quoted in the film "A Few Days in September" at about 1 hour 20 minutes into the film. The passage struck me as I'd not been struck when I read the text work a few years ago. John Turturro plays an amazing role in the film available free for Netflix subscribers with PC's and Internet Explorer through Netflix' watch now feature.

I shall read it only with the MacBook's internal mic so that it will proceed more quickly than the last D. H. Lawrence book read. HERE is the chapter-a-week feed for that other Lawrence tome by the name of "Lady Chatterley's Lover".

This was my first encounter with Google Books, which found the quote and would be the basis of the audio book reading were it not for the incomplete version therein found. Thus, Bibliomania becomes the source text.

In the meantime, hope you enjoy the pages above linked.

Word of the Day :: Reciprocity :: Re-vlog This I Believe

What you hear repeated, you believe to be truth. Fact.

Lesson: take care about what you allow repeated in your presence.

The person you will hear speaking if you click on one of the player links below is Joy Harjo, who will be at Lincoln Center August 26, and, "...has written eight collections of poetry and has produced three CDs of her music and poetry. A native of Tulsa, Okla., she is a member of the Muskogee Creek Nation. Harjo lives in Honolulu and teaches writing at the University of New Mexico."

"The quantum physicists have it right; they are beginning to think like Indians: Everything is connected dynamically at an intimate level. When you remember this, then the current wobble of the earth makes sense. How much more oil can be drained without replacement, without reciprocity?' - Joy Harjo

Testing IODA Promonet for Vlog Music

Testing IODA Promonet, a clearinghouse for podcast safe music that generates html credit code for blog posts. I love how the code looks and what it does for quality show notes.

Curious whether their html will allow the referenced mp3 to flow down RSS tubes.

You may preview and download mp3's from the site to use in your video podcast. Strict guidelines cover artist credit, but it's easy to do with their code generator.

More, later.

TED :: Passion :: Pay More

Technology, Entertainment, Design.

TED.

Only the best and brightest lights in each category.

How exciting is that? Damnably exciting.

Enabling METAPHRASTY.

From the TEDtalks site on the enclosed Richard St. John audio:

Why do people succeed? Because they're smart? Or lucky? How about: Neither. Richard St. John compacts seven years of research on successful people into an unmissable 3-minute slideshow on the real secrets of success (Hint: passion, persistence, and pushy mothers help). Richard St. John is author of Stupid, Ugly, Unlucky and RICH: What really leads to success -- and it's not smarts, looks, or luck. He's also founder of the communications agency, The St John Group.
Why is this post linked with the "Pay More" concept? Because tickets for TED '08 are $6,000.00

Prufrock and Other Observations :: by T.S. Eliot

Because there is never enough great poetry.

This poem continues to change my life every time I hear it.

Another sound gift from your sound geek.

It's good to hear this particular poem as I prepare to join Code Pink September 5 through the 22nd on the next Node Trip.

Neither the mainstream nor liberal media has much covered the fact that 3000 people are fasting excepting on the event of Cindy Sheehan's August 11 hunger-strike-related hospitalization. Some have been fasting since July 4.

I shall join and document the hunger strike process, holding myself gustatorially hostage until at least one mainstream television channel starts reporting the news again.

Listen to the mp3

A sound gift from your favorite sound geek. I use it as a ring tone. This one's been gifted to the public domain.

In other news, Scoble asks about critical mass for productive conversation.

My take, four max per conversation. A dozen for dinner gets 3 simultaneous conversations going. Palatable. Just enough variety toward choice.

Seating arrangements and capacity to change seats during the event facilitate the process. Different courses in different locations. The venerable post-meal retirement to the library for port and cigars comes to mind. As is my custom, I take the notion farther.

One of my problems in conversing in the vlogosphere is finding subject matter that engages me on enough levels to compel action. Scoble's question engages me intellectually, artistically, gustatorially & auditorially. As I recall the best conversations and their circumstances, memories of moments of great conversation flood.

All the best conversations happen around food & drink.

Past dinner parties given and taken emerge, among them Scoble's Off-the-Grid Geek Camp. I do so love a grande dinner party. Here are two of my own for inspiration:
1. An early flash mob / faux ballet instructed guests to meet in the park in front of the Plaza Hotel where further instructions were provided, specifically

a) You are dancers who will walk through the Plaza Hotel taking as many flash photographs of one another as possible.

b) Once outside the hotel, hail cabs to the location specified in the faux press pads for an intimate eight-course meal with live jazz piano.

2. An excerpt from a Valentine's Day Faux Parade given in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Instructions were to meet at magic hour (then 5:30 p.m.) near the M train's Bedford Avenue Subway Stop - listen for the brass band - join the parade. Afterward, we ate tapas & drank wine. The resulting full-length film is 28 mintues long and features all my dinner guests along with lots of new friends & other local folks I love.
The advantage of such events is that you are provided with properly fresh & delicious fodder for conversational topics. More than that, adrenaline and laughter fuel the thing. After trust has been established, it's ever so easy to move on to the deep topics that we love.

A nod to MMeiser for creating the word 'vloggersation' - a thing that requires a lot more work to facilitate ease-of-use.
