Eminent Domain
Have noted a spike in media attention to issues of eminent domain.
The U.S. Supreme Court will hear the case of a Connecticut town whose local government believes that raising the tax base is enough of a public good to warrant taking the land of individual homeowners.
Need we say that the land in question is waterfront property?
There's a similar contest going on in Ohio. Another in downtown Manhattan.
It will always be the case that a corporation will pay more taxes than a household. And big corporations will always provide a larger tax base than small corporations.
If the State court ruling stands, every piece of real estate is at risk for condemnation.
And that's just not good for anyone.
Here's a link to the piece in Forbes Magazine.
