White Man Speak With Forked Tongue

At the turn of the 20th Century, Native Americans held 40 million acres of land. They now have 11 million acres. The United States Government under the auspices of the Department of the Interior that administers Indian landholdings and revenues therefrom now has a legal obligation to inform Indians of land sales in advance of the event.

When land was given to individual Indians under the Dawes Act of 1887, the Indians "owned" the land but the government retained title and not only took in revenues generated from it, but doled it out.

Sheesh.
