The N96 is not bad at all capturing shafts of light, flares & shadow.
This video was uploaded to Nokia's Ovi sills and video sharing host. This is Ovi's html code for the media file that links to the video hosted @ Ovi's site:
Fair warning: Don't try to post to your blog directly from Ovi using an email address, because all the email addresses appear in the resultant post, including what should be your very private post-to-blog email addy. Oops.
An Ovi downside is that only the owner of the media posted has the option to download it in its mp4 format, and then, only with a script rather than the preferable direct URL. Perhaps there's a setting to permit any / all / or some to download, but it's not immediately apparent. Neither is the media's license immediately apparent. No copyright or creative commons license option at all as far as I can see. Probably buried in the terms of service. Not good enough.
Ovi should check out Blip.TV for best practices in IP regard.

Web Therapy :: Getting the Tools Right
"Web Therapy" uses 'social media tools' to create the production delivery / storytelling 'device' of the web cam as character & narrative tool.
Good stuff I think, based only on this third of an episode.
3-minute web cam psychotherapy sessions?
Um-hm.
Large-concept; easily improvised, shot & edited; respectful of busy folks' schedules...
The flash site's a little bit slow-to-load and lame (get over Flash, yo), but the humor's pretty darned funny.
Oh, the site's lousy with Flash.

Re-Vlog :: WalkingMan :: Net Cinema Poetics
Guys over @ Taylor Street Studio, Soluble Fish, and Joel Sugarman are making stuff together.
Elegantly done, fellas.
Methinks this was all shot on cell phone.
Video, moving, & mapping for purposes of storytelling.
Streamlined, real-time-to-web, yet long-lasting film making.
This is IT; this is what excites me for development, production and marketing stories.
What kinds of stories can we really 'see' and ' hear' when delivered and taken in from a web site, cell phone, or iPod?
This kind of film making reminds me of Michael Figgis' cutting-edge "Time Code" -- one of my favorite films.
Figgis is a good pianist.
Found Will Leurs' project from his comment over @ one of Ted Hope's blogs that 'reviews' Twitter. I've written about Ted's Twitter Review post earlier.

Qik Live Stream Player :: N96 Field Test
It's here!
Nokia's N96 finally arrived, with help from my helpful neighbors who sign for my stuff from the lazy delivery guy who doesn't wanna schlep up a flight of steps and sometimes forget to deliver.
The increased quality of cellphone video will make a huge difference in what creators can imagine doing with these always-on, always-handy devices.
I'm soooooo interested in making a feature film using only cell phone video.
Need a writer, thank you very much.
In the meantime, can me and my pals produce a cellphone-based short film with Nokia's vine application? In three weeks? Dunno. ViNe keeps hanging up in Firefox. :( Have yet to install the application on the phone.
Soon.
Failing interest in a short film, a few interviews anyway.

N96 Back Kickstand for Easily Viewing Movies
The kickstand is one of the coolest things about this phone.
My hope is that someone will come up with a way to attach a tripod / monopod at this intersection. Now THAT would be sweet since hand-held shots tend to wobble more than we'd like.

Movies 'Til Dawn :: Blogging "City Island"
Raymond says the nicest things:
My old friend and sound mixer Jan McLaughlin also was a fabulous partner in crime. I can't describe what makes Jan quite so magnetic and fascinating--she's both very much more present than most people and also on an entirely different plane of existence than most of us. Jan did my first movie, "Cafe Society" a dozen years ago and this was our reunion movie. She's got nothing but a brilliant attitude toward the whole mess and made me smile every morning--not an easy task as a shoot progresses. By the way, she's also a mad genius and a Goddam good Audio capturer.
Guess this quote becomes part of the résumé.
Have gotten such incredible positive feedback lately it boggles the mind.
That said, I've worked hard to get here and plan / need to ride this wave as far as it will take me.
Let it also be said that I echo Raymond's estimation of other collaborators. Eric Henriquez was fabuloso. Vanja Cernjul literally paints with light in ways I've not seen before. Franckie Diago a complete and ferocious inspiration, as is Raymond.

The man's got a CD entered in the Blues Society of Western Pennsylvania 2008 International Blues Challenge.
Spoke about Jeff in a previous podcast HERE.
We go back a long way, he and I; he taught me "As Time Goes By". Thanks for that, Jeff. It's a song that's been with me in a meaningful way ever since. A wonderful companion.
Jeff's not yet got much of a web presence. Perhaps if this post gets to him, we can work something out Creative Commons-wise for vloggers to be able to use his works in exchange for link love.

WTF?
Some feed to which I've subscribed in FireANT has begun to download my Tweets having been read by computer and turned into mp3's.
Here's an example.
Metadata shows http://www.readspeaker.com/ as artist.
Will investigate further what feed it might have been.
Weird thing is the computer-voiced lady reads the entry twice.
POST NOTE: My tweets are run via opt-in RSS link thru Shozu.com (a great free service that helps me upload video to the web from the cell phone outside MMS), then Shozu makes 'em into mp3's @ » link to Startpage - www.readspeaker.com I subscribed to my Shozu feed a couple of days ago. Ah-ha!
It's pretty good quality text-to-speech, and takes RSS feeds and converts text to speech in mp3's and generates a separate RSS podcast feed. Great tool for the sight-disabled or folks who want to listen to text blogs via portable media player.

Talking Photo :: Free $50 Software for Blogging It

I'm interested in the concept of economic vortex spinning.
Kind of a great idea.
Wish the software looked better. More real. Will be interested to see if the UI beats Crazy Talk, the program my machinima buddies (like Verdi) use.

8525 Bluetooth Audio Override
Testing a software solution that allows me to use a Bluetooth headset to capture 8525 system audio in's and outs. Successful, but is the audio quality good enough? I think not. Hearing cell phone junk on the track. Boo.

POST NOTE: The software hack worked brilliantly! Now if only the Motorola H500 Bluetooth headset worked half as well as the Plantronics... I've spoken about Motorola headset / 8525 issues before in this space, including its default, unchangeable, annoying "Wagner" ringtone. When this one dies, I shall for sure switch back to a Plantronics device.
Furthermore, when and if the iPhone or a Google phone comes out with a video-taking device, I will switch to them, unless of course I can get a high-end, web-capable Nokia in the U.S., my hands-down first choice in a video cell phone.
