Peaceful Protest :: Drive-by Movlog
Often have occasion to drive by the corner of 42nd Street and West Side Highway, where are always seen members of Falun Gong. Their omnipresence at all hours of the day and night caused me to take these moving images and do a little research. Curious always what moves people to act.

It's the End of YouTube, For Sure
It's the end of YouTube, I tell you. And all the rest who find it fun to be or play with the 'Big Boys.' Yeah. It's all fun and games until the Big Boy hits you over the head with a baseball bat and walks away with your muse, your very-popular significant other: pop culture.
Big Boys are ruthless that way.
I too have noticed a plethora of videos removed for TOS violations, not least of which a Hillary Clinton presidential announcement video scraped from CNN.
This is most certainly NOT the end of user-created, user-mediated media. Not by a longshot.
With copyright-based systems springing up all over, it will become increasingly more challenging for content creators and their audiences to create and find interesting works, but we shan't allow video culture to die just because we can't legally partake of popular culture.
No-siree-bob.
My advice? Don't be a pussy; take a few more steps back from the popular center of the walled garden.
- Live, consume and create from the edges
- Support those Big Boys who open the gate to the IP garden with your dollars, eyeballs, links, and content
- Spend lots of time listening to Creative Commons-licensed music
Pay more.

Faux Press Vlog: Las Chicas Mas Bonitas
My next-door neighbor, Global Stitching, has some really amazing women working there. They despair that I'm not 'getting any,' and rhapsodize that "chicki-chicki" is muy bueno. Jackie likes to sing, so I hear her sing on and off all day. It's my goal to make her comfortable enough to sing for the camera.

Diet? Screw That

Diet? No way.
Just make a single rule that works for you.
My single rule is: No cookies, candies, cakes or salt delivery devices from the grocery store.
I can eat any sugary or salty delight I want, so long as I cook it.
It takes about two months, but the weight comes off.
This strategy works because I don't really cook. It works because I can have the sugary/salty things I crave any time.
Trick is, to figure out your rule.

Faux Press Vlogcast :: Faux Portrait Painting
Vlog- and Pod-cast technology have consumed the last two days following a spate of recording music and re-editing some of the early videoworks, first done on PC, now improved via Final Cut Express and iMovie on a Mac instrument.
Interesting to revisit the motion pictures.

The Faux Portrait Painting you see here was actually a dress rehearsal for an event that later happened in a venue that prohibited the use of paint. Or chalk. Go figure.
So, Costain the Painter & I did it in constant contact, crawling all over his body as if he were a tree or jungle gym.

A Book That Changed My Life: Technology of Orgasm
Funny and scholarly, Technology of Orgasm: "Hysteria," the Vibrator, and Women's Sexual Satisfaction (Johns Hopkins Studies in the History of Technology) - by Rachel P. Maines - is one of those four-or-ten-in-a-lifetime reads.
Maines gives me reason to see the medical industry in a vastly different light, a historical context that is so silly and amazing I can hardly contain the giggles.

Lost Christianities: Spiritual Narcissism
Theory: One thing that sets human beings apart from animals and inanimate objects is the human capacity for memory.
In the big picture, memory is a relatively new development aided in its course by language.
We remember by repetition. Recent studies on the mechanics of memory indicate that if one hears something often enough the human brain takes it for the truth.
In order to better understand our failures and foibles, remember how easy it is to forget.

Sperm - Once Given - Is Legally a Gift
An Illinois woman was sued by her former lover for two things:
1. The fraudulent theft of her lover's sperm; and
2. Emotional distress as the result of the pregnancy accomplished by using that sperm to impregnate herself without the sperm creator's knowledge or complicity.
An Illinois Appellate Court has ruled that the creator of the sperm has standing to sue for the emotional distress but alas, not for fraudulent sperm theft.
So, gentle readers, understand that one cannot do takebacks of sperm; sperm is - legally speaking - a gift. I've always intuited that might be the case.
The female defendant's second mistake was to have sued the plaintiff for paternity. She won, and the male was ordered to pay $800 a month in child support. Peeved, he sued back as outlined above.
The Appellate Court said, "She asserts that when plaintiff 'delivered' his sperm, it was a gift -- an absolute and irrevocable transfer of title to property from a donor to a donee. There was no agreement that the original deposit would be returned upon request."
Guessing you're dying to know, the sperm was "delivered" orally.
Golly neds, I love the law.
The Wal-Mart Wars
Queens, NY, has successfully prevented Wal-Mart from opening a 132,000 square-foot store in its back yard.
Wal-Mart says it's still looking at other sites in and around New York City.
Wal-Mart needs to begin to treat its employees like human beings rather than automata and extensions of a conservative political agenda.
Monopoly. Monoculture.
Once a mega-store wipes out all the small businesses, people who will have come to depend upon Wal-Mart's low prices will be at the mercy of not a score of small businesses who compete but of one mega-store that can then charge whatever it wishes because there are no alternatives.
"Pay more."
