Winter Re-Run :: The Welding: Bride's Song - I'll Cut You if You Cut and Run

As promised, some documentary footage from the alternative wedding I helped produce and direct with my now-welded-together-forever pals Carol and Steve.

The song -- "I'll Cut You if You Cut and Run" -- was written by Carol and me - the bride's lyrics to my music - and was played by Brooklyn's Hungry March Band the day following the blackout of August 2003.

What a beautiful nightmare it was.

More footage from "The Welding" perhaps forthcoming. This serves as part of the collection of sketch /trailer footage I've made toward producing "The World's Longest Open Love Letter" film.

Wish me luck.

When I boot up my phone it says, "Try Again," which are words captured from inside a bottle top by an artist whom I know by the name of H.D. I bought the print from her. Perhaps it's time to hang the art collection. Again.

Current job "City Island" has been darned civilized, I'm guessing primarily due to the producers' and director's inherent humanity, and less so, budgetary concerns, since by our contract after 14 hours the crew goes into triple time.

Play Quicktime Version

Worked with composer Robert Miller on "Happy Tears" recently.

While setting up a Google clipping service for the film, found Mikael Carlsson's site Upcoming Film Scores, where he mentions Miller and the fact that he scored two other films on which I've worked: "Trumbo" and "The Caller".

Have not intersected much with composers before, but because Rip's "Happy Tears" character might have had to learn to sing and play a Miller tune, we spoke and emailed back and forth on technical issues for a while.

Gratifying to learn that this is not the first time we've worked on the same projects.

Small world.

"Trumbo" is in New York and Los Angeles theaters starting June 27, 2008 - check HERE for show times. Based on what I've seen, it's something well worth seeing.

Not watching television, I missed his PBS thing when it was on. And then, he got canned or left or both, so I bought his books.

Now with the podcast, I may hear his poetical analysis of the world as we wish we knew it.

Asked earlier (HERE & HERE) why Starbucks is evil. Now, I've an answer from Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping.

From their site:

After marrying a couple who declared their love in celebration of freedom and justice, Rev is arrested for exorcising the Starbucks exterior.

Reverend Billy, the Stop Shopping Gospel Choir and members of our Congregation gathered at the Astor Place cube on Sunday February 11 to continue informing the world that Starbucks is blocking Ethiopia from trademarking ancient coffee names, trademarks that could help farmers in a bottomed-out coffee market make enough money to feed their families. For the second week in a row the New York Police Department arrested Reverend Billy, this time before any of the congregation could enter the store. Starbucks can't allow the truth to even hover on its doorstep! But everyone will know: that Starbucks is blocking coffee farmers from receiving more compensation for their labor, that Starbucks buys less than 4% of their coffee within Fair Trade parameters, that Starbucks is a union-busting, anti-labor company! The Sidamo Prayer Campaign continues!

Revlog :: PBS' Frontline Addresses the War on Journalism

Frontline's recently-aired News War is an important piece of documentary work that features (among many others) indie journalist Josh Wolf.

In Federal prison on civil contempt charges for having refused to turn over raw video footage of a 2005 G8 demonstration that turned violent, Mr. Wolf is the longest-jailed journalist in American history.

Frontline writes on its site:

"In a four-hour special, News War, FRONTLINE examines the political, cultural, legal, and economic forces challenging the news media today and how the press has reacted in turn. Great to see Josh's fight / plight on television; you can see Parts I and II now, but eveutually, the whole show will be available online, and in Quicktime format if you wish.
